Cada um desses grupos representa uma contribuição essencial para sua relevância (veja descrição detalhada em [Apêndice H](/methodology/pt-br/apendices/apendice-h-autores-indigenas.md), [(Zanjani et al., 2023)](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1877343523000453?via%3Dihub). Para preservar de verdade os pontos críticos de biodiversidade e as florestas tropicais funcionais, é preciso muito trabalho com Povos Indígenas e comunidades locais, respeitando as diferenças culturais na forma de ver o tempo e a confiança. Mas esses grupos foram excluídos tanto por desenho quanto por desconhecimento — a inclusão exige mais do que convite e se estende a investimento, ferramentas e informação [(Cheikosman, 2023)](https://www.weforum.org/publications/recommendations-for-the-digital-voluntary-and-regulated-carbon-markets/). Metodologias muito complexas ou estruturalmente exclusivas podem ser prejudiciais, sem querer, para Povos Indígenas e comunidades locais, ao financiar comportamentos ou pessoas corruptas [(Indigenous Environmental Network n.d.)](https://unfccc.int/sites/default/files/resource/SB007_call_for_input_indigenous_Indigenous%20Environmental%20Network.pdf). Mas, mais importante, elas simplesmente não funcionam, porque as pessoas que melhor sabem como preservar essas espécies são as menos consultadas nos mercados criados para ter esse efeito [(Estrada et al. 2022)](https://www.science.org/doi/full/10.1126/sciadv.abn2927).
